Project: Casino Barge Cleaned of Storm Debris and Relaunched into Gulf of Mexico

This was one of many unusual projects presented by Hurricane Katrina. Here the vast storm destroyed the entire top portion of a major casino, lifted the barge out of the Gulf of Mexico and place it right-side up on the fronting, major thoroughfare. After cleaning the barge of the storm debris, a moat was constructed around it to allow for easy lifting. We lined the area between the moat and the Gulf with a very slippery material. A crane on another barge in the Gulf was positioned and pulled the floating barge over the top of the moat, across the material and back into the Gulf of Mexico.`
